On September 15 and 16 2018 Sifnos island will host the most entertaining race you have ever experienced. It’s called Fearless – but you need not fear it!
On the morning of Saturday, September 15 three races will start, all of them from the beautiful beach of Platis Yialos. The first is a 3.000 meter one-lap swim inside a well protected bay. The race will start out of the water (beach start) and will finish under an arch, also on the beach, just a few steps away from the sea. There will be another start at almost the same time for a shorter 1.200 meter swim. Safety will be a top priority for both races with several boats and kayaks manned by lifeguards along the course. Participants can combine the 1.200 meter swim with a 12.5 km/450m vertical gain mountain trail run for a total multi sport experience! A separate start will be available for the run for those who don’t want to get wet! This trail is considered one of the most beautiful on the island, combining rocky paths, olive groves, remote beaches and monasteries. Hydration and feed stations will be available.
All sorts of activities will take place on the same afternoon (stay tuned for more info) while a very special beach party will welcome all that night!
Sunday morning will see another swim race, this one 3.000 meters long – and really unique.
It will start from the beach of Apokoftou, right next to the famous and picturesque Chrysopigi monastery, site of countless Greek wedding ceremonies. (Participants will be transported there by bus.) This is a true open water race geared to those who are Fearless of deep seas, born to ride the waves of the Aegean! After a beach start, athletes will swim to the point where the monastery is situated, then turn right towards Platys Yialos. Immerse yourself to the magic of the sea with abandon – our lifeguards will be there, patient and sunburnt, to see to your safety. Water, bananas and iso drinks will be provided with an encouraging smile at the midpoint of the course. After reaching another point, you will turn right again to enter the marina which will be closed to all traffic for the duration of the race. The finish line will once again be under the arch, just outside the water.
You will become officially Fearless!
